History

1956

DOMINION TIRE COMPANY EXPANDS FACTORY

The Dominion Tire Company plant (est. 1914) constructs a storage warehouse next door to the factory. This is to be the future home of Catalyst137.

1966 - 1986

DOMINION TIRE UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP

Dominion Tire is renamed to Uniroyal in 1966 and then once again in 1986 after merging tire businesses with B.F. Goodrich to become the Uniroyal-Goodrich Tire Company.

1992

TIRE PLANT CLOSES

After being acquired by Michelin North America in 1990, the Kitchener plant is shut down after 78 years of tire production.

2008

DIAMOND CAPITAL INC. PURCHASES THE SPACE

Under Diamond Capital, the building is used as general warehouse space up until 2016 when it is sold to Catalyst137’s developers and partners.

2015

AN IDEA IS BORN

Michael Bierstock, a respected local real estate developer, identifies 137 Glasgow Street in Kitchener as an ideal place for a technology hub. Responding to a vision statement by three local hardware technology companies, Mr. Bierstock enlists the help of Kurtis McBride of Miovision and Frank Voisin of Voisin Capital to bring this vision to reality.

2016

CATALYST137 CONSTRUCTION BEGINS

Michael Bierstock, Kurtis McBride and Frank Voisin make public their plans for transforming the empty warehouse space into Catalyst137 and construction begins.

Summer 2017

MIOVISION MOVES IN

In the midst of ongoing construction, Miovision becomes the first official tenant.

August 2018

RESTAURANT AND CAFE OPEN THEIR DOORS

Red Circle Coffee and Graffiti Market make their debut, opening Catalyst137 up to the rest of the Kitchener-Waterloo community.
